Japanese Import Procedure
1. Sourcing & Importation
Our trusted Japanese partners carefully bid on and purchase the highest quality European-specification vehicles on our behalf. Japan has long been known for producing an exceptionally well-maintained used car market, with strict domestic vehicle inspection laws meaning cars are often sold in outstanding condition long before reaching the end of their usable life. We take full advantage of this by sourcing vehicles that meet our exacting standards before they ever leave the country.
Once secured, each vehicle undergoes pre-export checks in Japan before being shipped. Vehicles arrive at Southampton Port, where they are cleared through customs and HMRC NOVA (Notification of Vehicle Arrival), before being transported to our storage facility for the next phase of inspection.
2. European-Spec — Built the Same Way as Your Local Dealer
This is where our Japanese imports differ from what most people picture when they hear the term. Our vehicles are not grey imports, and they are not built to a different standard. Every car we source from Japan is European-specification, manufactured in the exact same factories as the cars sold new on UK forecourts — because they were originally sold into the European market before making their way to Japan.
What this means in practice:
Right-hand drive as standard — no conversions, no compromises
Identical parts compatibility — fully serviceable at any UK main dealer or independent garage using standard UK parts
Same insurance group ratings — grouped identically to equivalent UK-market vehicles, so you won't pay a penny more to insure one of our cars than you would a direct UK purchase
No odometer discrepancies — vehicles are already calibrated correctly, and mileage is fully verifiable through service history and pre-export documentation
MOT ready — because the cars were built to European safety and emissions standards, they require no significant modification to pass a UK MOT
Manufacturer warranty history — many of our imports retain full, verifiable service records from authorised dealers
The result is a vehicle that offers the same ownership experience as buying from a UK dealer, at a significantly more competitive price point — simply because of where it spent its previous life.
