Myths Vs Truths

Japanese Import Myths vs. Facts

There's a lot of outdated information floating around about Japanese import vehicles. Most of it stems from the era of true grey imports — cars built for the Japanese domestic market that required significant modification to be road legal in the UK. That's not what we do. Here's the truth.

Myth: Japanese imports are grey imports built for the Japanese market.
Fact: Every vehicle we source is European-specification, built in the same factory as its UK-market equivalent. These cars were originally manufactured for the European market — they simply spent their early life in Japan before we brought them back. There is no grey import concern here.

Myth: You'll pay more to insure a Japanese import.
Fact: Because our cars are European-spec and share the same VIN structure, engine codes, and build specification as UK-sold equivalents, they fall into the exact same insurance groups. You will not pay a higher premium. Any insurer who quotes you differently is working off an incorrect assumption about the vehicle — something we can help you address with the right documentation.

Myth: Parts will be hard to find or expensive.
Fact: Our imports are mechanically identical to their UK counterparts. That means any main dealer, franchise garage, or independent mechanic can service them using standard UK parts at standard UK prices. There are no specialist suppliers, no waiting for overseas shipments, no premium costs.

Myth: The mileage can't be trusted.
Fact: All of our vehicles come with full pre-export documentation, verifiable service history, and in many cases dealer-stamped records from authorised Japanese service centres. Mileage is cross-referenced and verified before any car is listed for sale. We also provide full transparency on every vehicle's history as standard.

Myth: Japanese imports struggle with UK MOTs.
Fact: Because our cars were built to European safety and emissions standards, they are already compliant with UK MOT requirements. Any standard pre-sale checks — lighting, fog lights, emissions — are carried out before the car reaches you. We do not list a vehicle until it is MOT ready.

Myth: You won't get a warranty on an import.
Fact: Every Japanese import we sell comes with a 6-month mechanical and electrical warranty as standard. Full documentation is provided at handover, including MOT certificate, UK VSC logbook, and any available service history. Extended warranty options are also available.

Myth: Imports have hidden damage or modification history.
Fact: Every vehicle undergoes a detailed inspection upon arrival, including a full underbody rust inspection, structural integrity check, and accident history verification. We only purchase from trusted, vetted Japanese partners who provide pre-export condition reports. If we're not satisfied, we don't buy it.
